MUMPS

Homeopathic medicines are often effective in treating the average case of mumps and help reduce the chances of complications. However, any teenager who gets the mumps should receive medical attention, and so should any child who also has difficulty hearing or who has convulsions, neck stiffness, severe headache, or great weakness.

Aconitum: This is useful at the beginning stages of mumps. These children have a sudden onset of fever, and are restless, anxious, and very thirsty.

BELLADONNA : The child has a flushed face and a throbbing headache. He has swollen glands that are hot to touch. He is drowsy but has difficulty sleeping.

Mercurius : Right-sided swelling of throat glands typifies children who will benefit from this medicine. The child also has profuse and foul-smelling salivation and perspiration.

PHYTOLACCA: When a child with mumps has stony-hard throat glands, especially on the right side, this medicine should be considered. The throat pains may extend to the ear, and the child may have an irresistible desire to clamp his teeth together. One of the characteristic symptoms is pain from sticking out the tongue. The child tends to be worse in cold or wet weather.
